UCI Snow Bike World Championships 2025: Everything you need to know

The second edition of the UCI Snow Bike World Championships takes place this weekend in Châtel, Haute-Savoie, France. Inspired by alpine skiing but incorporating bikes rather than skis, this year will see the championships move to a one-day format, with both the Super-G and dual slalom events will be held on the same day, Saturday 8th February.

Last year, Pierre Thevenard (France) and Morgane Such (France) won the men’s and women’s Super-G titles respectively, while Thevenard and Lisa Baumann (Switzerland) were crowned champions in the dual slalom.

UCI Snow Bike World Championships 2025: Super-G and Dual Slalom Route

The Super-G route is 1,957m in length, with 600m elevation decrease, while the dual slalom is 510m in length, with 155m elevation decrease. The same bike must be used for both competition formats, with downhill mountain bikes recommended and studded tyres authorised.

What is the Super-G?

UCI MTB

Super-G stands for ‘super giant slalom’ and is a discipline in downhill skiing. In the UCI Snow Bike World Championships, races will take place over a single run on the L’Aity ski slope then the Stade du Linga with competitors starting one by one at 40-second intervals.

Riders must navigate turns as they descend at high speed, and the Super-G event will also serve as qualification for the dual slalom. The fastest 32 riders will progress.

What is the dual slalom?

UCI MTB

Much like the parallel slalom in both alpine skiing and snowboarding. In the dual slalom on the Linga ski slope, two competitors race simultaneously down their respective courses. The knockout format will see 32 riders taking part in 16 heats to reach the round of 16, then on to the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.

How to watch the UCI Snow Bike World Championships 2025

As with the inaugural edition held in 2024, sadly there will be no live coverage of the 2025 UCI Snow Bike World Championships. Discovery+ did at least post a 30-minute highlights package almost two weeks after last year’s championships, so expect the same here.
