Pro bike: Mathieu van der Poel’s Paris-Roubaix 2025 Canyon Aeroad
Mathieu van der Poel has now won Paris-Roubaix three times in a row. He’s absolutely unmatched in the modern era and only one win short of tying the all-time wins record, which you’d probably bet on him doing next year.
Watching Van der Poel on the cumbersome cobbles of northern France is like watching prime Torville and Dean on the ice. Does he even know the road isn’t smooth?
One of the most striking things about Van der Poel’s dominance is that he is probably the rider with the least bike modifications in the whole peloton at Roubaix. Outside of sizing up from 28mm to 32mm, the rest of his Canyon Aeroad‘s setup is almost boring. So here are all the boring details.
Mathieu van der Poel Paris-Roubaix 2025 Canyon Aeroad spec

Mathieu doesn’t care for big chainring trends – he’ll stick to the 54-tooth.

The craziest thing about this bike is his special edition paintjob, which Canyon has called ‘Tensor’. Apparently it’s showing the results of its own stress-test simulation from developing the Aeroad, with the colours indicating the areas under most stress when going over the cobbles.

He doesn’t overcomplicate his race notes, just nice colour-coded feed instructions, the first cobbled sector and the five-star sectors.

Like many riders, Van der Poel has a slight negative angle on his stem.

How long will he have the #1 at Roubaix?

At Flanders he was riding unmarked wheels with carbon spokes, but this time he’s gone back for the classic Shimano Dura-Ace C50 wheels with steel spokes.

Canyon will be very pleased to have him on a ten-year contract.
