The best photos from the women’s Olympic Road Race Paris 2024
Women’s cycling never fails to deliver, but the Olympic road race went to another level. Imagine saying the lead group of four after the final climb included Lotte Kopecky and Marianne Vos, and neither would win.
The incredible display saw Kristen Faulkner become the first American woman to win the road race since Connie Carpenter-Phinney won the very first 40 years ago.
Photographer Zac Williams was in the heart of the action all weekend to capture the pain and the glory of an incredible race, here are some of our favourite shots of his from the women’s race – find the gallery for the men’s race here.
Aqueducts really mess with the eyes.
Bike racing, cobbles, Paris. Hard to beat.
Kristen Faulkner had diamonds in the legs, this was just the start.
Unbelievable display from the British team, with all three making it to the front group after the big split and this pair, Anna Henderson and Lizzie Deignan, were the most active.
Demi Vollering is always animated.
Strong fifth for Pfeiffer Georgi after a hard day in the saddle, and a lovely picture for the wall as well.
Faulkner was doing serious damage on the Côte de la Butte Montmartre.
It was great to see Queen Lizzie back flying at the Olympics.
Mavi García gave it a good go for Spain in what will surely be her last Olympics.
Deignan launched one of the key moves of the race but couldn’t stick with the pace of Blanka Vas and Marianne Vos once they joined her.
Vas vs Vos would’ve been an excellent showdown on two multi-disciplinary talents at opposite ends of the their careers.
But Kristen Faulkner had other plans. Though apparently those plans didn’t include celebrating yet.

No dancing for Alison Jackson, but she did get to congratulate her trade teammate Faulkner.

Got her. Even with her palmarès winning Olympic silver is a proud moment.
Vos was already the GOAT when Faulkner started cycling. Incredible achievement.
