If it ain’t broke… Cervélo makes minor updates to its new Caledonia-5

The 2025 Cervélo Caledonia-5 is a minor update to the brand’s endurance bike. Cervélo says it has improved compliance and frame stiffness, and added in-frame storage in the downtube for tools for on-road repair.

There’s a slight increase in tyre clearance, but other features such as the aero profiles and internal cable routing are carried over from the previous generation bike.

Shimano and SRAM specs, all with a power meter, are offered at prices ranging from £5,500 to £11,000.

Added compliance claimed

Blink and you’d miss the changes to the Cervélo Caledonia, the brand’s light and fast endurance bike. That’s not a bad thing. When we reviewed the Caledonia-5 soon after its launch in 2020, Stu’s verdict was that it was ‘the bike most of us should ride, if we’re being honest with ourselves’.

That assertion was based on the Caledonia-5’s comfort, stability and clearance for 34mm tyres.

The 2025 Cervélo Caledonia builds on those qualities, with an extra 2mm of tyre clearance and, as with the previous generation bike, the mounts needed to fit mudguards for all-weather riding.

As well as the option to put extra rubber on the road, potentially increasing ride comfort, Cervélo says that it has also increased the Caledonia-5’s frame compliance and dropped the seatstays more, and that it has beefed up the down tube’s stiffness for improved power delivery.

Cervélo has also gone with the flow in providing in-frame storage under the down tube bottle cage mounts, reckoning that there’s enough room in there for a multitool, CO2 inflator and spare tube. Sadly, although it provides the tool wrap, helpfully printed with outlines of said tools, you’ll have to provide the real things yourself.

Details carried over from the first generation Caledonia-5 include full internal cable routing with split spacers to make bar height adjustment easier and aero tube profiles.

Semi-compact gearing with a power meter

The Caledonia-5 is aimed at riders who want to go far and fast and Cervélo reckons it’s a good bet for audaxers and ultra-endurance racers. As such, all specs are equipped with a semi-compact crankset, 52/36t for Shimano and 48/35t for SRAM, rather than the more usual endurance-oriented 50/34t Shimano or 46/33t SRAM option.

All specs are equipped with a power meter, either an in-series SRAM model, or a 4iiii Precision 3 Pro dual sided meter for Shimano bikes.

The ‘entry-level’ SRAM Rival bike has Vision Team i23 alloy wheels, while the five higher specs all have Reserve 42/49 carbon wheels. All specs are shod with Vittoria 30mm wide tyres, either Corsa N.Ext or Corsa Pro Control.

The Caledonia-5 is available in six sizes from 48 to 61 in either black or carmine red.
