Enve’s SES AR bar/stem can now be bought aftermarket… for £1,300

Enve has been offering its flared SES AR One-Piece carbon bar/stem as an option on its Custom Road, Melee and Mog bikes for some time, and it’s now selling it as a stand-alone component, allowing you to retrofit it to Enve bikes or frames from third parties that use the Enve In-Route cable routing solution.

The SES AR One-Piece offers internal cable routing, an aero and ergonomic profile and compound flared drops. It’s available in a range of 20 size combinations from 380mm to 460mm wide at the tops, widening to 430mm to 510mm in the drops, with a 127mm bend and effective stem lengths from 90mm to 130mm.

It’s priced at £1,300/$1,200 and has a claimed weight between 330g and 360g, depending on size. Check Enve’s site for available sizes.

New aftermarket option

Enve cockpits were previously only available aftermarket as separate bars and stems, so the new US-made SES AR One-Piece is a new, sleeker, more aero offering for the fast gravel/all-road rider.

The design includes a compound flare to the bar, with the upper part of the bend vertical, while the lower 50mm flares out at 18 degrees. This means that the brake levers are in a standard position, rather than the sometimes-uncomfortable outward angled position they adopt on some flared gravel bike bars, which was outlawed by the UCI this winter.

Similar to many other integrated cabling systems, the Enve In-Route routing system feeds the brake hoses and – if they’re there – electronic shifting wires through the stem and into the front of the headset spacers, then down into the bike’s frame.

Although the SES AR One-Piece bar/stem fits the range of Enve bikes, only a limited number of third party frame-makers have adopted Enve’s system. So unless you want to up-spec your Enve bike, it’s likely that your bike will not be compatible with Enve’s newest cockpit.

Enve supplies the SES AR One-Piece with a custom K-Edge Garmin/Wahoo computer mount, a range of spacers, bar-end plugs and fittings for a Shimano Di2 junction box if you’re running a previous generation Shimano road groupset, so you’ve got everything you need to fit it to your bike.

It says that later this year, it will be launching aftermarket sales of the one-piece SES Aero Road bar/stem, as fitted to the Colnago V4Rs race bikes of Tadej Pogačar and his UAE Team Emirates colleauges. This has a width at the hoods of between 350mm and 390mm, for a narrow, aero, pro ride position.
