DT Swiss adds a dynamo option to its gravel wheels
DT Swiss has added the option to spec a dynamo hub to two of its most popular alloy gravel bike front wheels.
The new GR 1600 Spline Dyn (£299.99 / €320.90) and G 1800 Spline Dyn (£234.99 / €248.90) front wheels incorporate the brand’s new 350 SP PL07 dynamo front hub, which can also be bought standalone for €174.90 (UK N/A).
Efficient power output

DT says that its dynamo is one of the most efficient available, delivering a 6V/3W output with a conversion rate of rider input to electric power of 72% at 15 kmh.
You can hook it up to lighting or a USB-powered device and the hub is compliant with the German StVZO lighting regs. StVZO compliance means that the dynamo can provide enough output to light your path and make you visible to other road users.
The power input needed from the rider increases as their speed increases, with DT’s figures suggesting that this starts to level off at around 6 to 7 watts at 30kmh when drawing current. There’s also a small amount of drag when the unit is turned off, although DT says that this is below 1 watt at 30kmh.
Those figures, according to DT, mean that you can run a 3 watt dynamo lightset with just 4.2 watts of power input at 15kmh.
DT has custom built the hub shell to handle heavy loads, vibration and the weather typically experienced when riding off-road and bikepacking.
Two front wheel options

Laced into the GR 1600 Spline alloy front wheel with 24 straight-pull DT Aero Comp spokes, DT’s dynamo has a total claimed front wheel weight of 1,075g. Dynamo front wheel prices start at $442.90 / €320.90.
Alternatively, the G 1800 Spline Dyn front wheel also has an alloy rim. Its weight is claimed at 1,098g and it’s priced at $342.90 / €258.90.
Both wheels are tubeless-ready and supplied ready-taped and with valves and lighting connectors.
You can also buy the dynamo and build up your own wheels. On its own, it has a claimed 376g weight and is priced at $236.90 / €174.90.
In the UK, the two wheel options will be available to order from UK distributor Madison, priced at £299.99 and £234.99.
