Campagnolo returns to the WorldTour with Cofidis in 2025

Campagnolo will once again be supplying components to the WorldTour in 2025, after a 2024 racing season in which no team in either the men’s or women’s WorldTour raced with its groupsets or wheels.

The company has announced a four-year partnership with Cofidis that will see its men’s and women’s teams riding Look’s 795 Blade RS all-rounder road bikes and 796 Monoblade RS time-trial bikes equipped with Campagnolo Super Record Wireless groupsets in 2025.

Interestingly, in the images supplied the team’s road bikes are equipped with 54/39t chainrings, rather than the 50/34t largest chainring configuration commercially available for Super Record Wireless.

As with SRAM’s road groupsets, Super Record Wireless cassettes have a 10t smallest sprocket and Campagnolo downsized the chainrings when it launched Super Record Wireless, to provide comparable gearing to standard chainrings with an 11-tooth smallest sprocket.

Campagnolo seemed to be having second thoughts about its groupset configurations in any case, as the Super Record Wireless S groupset reverted to standard chainring sizes when it was launched in September this year.

SRAM too added ‘pro-only’ larger chainrings to its lineup subsequent to launching Red eTap AXS in 2019 (this year updated to Red AXS). Pros tend to prefer the larger rings for their higher top ratios as well as the ability to run a straighter chainline with smaller chain link rotation angles in normal race conditions, both of which reduce drivetrain friction.

The bikes are also shown with a standard crankset rather than Campagnolo’s pricy HPPM power meter. Instead, they make use of Look’s pedal-based Keo Blade power meter.

The team will also ride on the recently updated Campagnolo Bora Ultra WTO wheels, with both the 45mm and 60mm rim depths available. With an internal rim width of 23mm, Campagnolo says the wheels are wind-tunnel-optimised (hence the WTO in their name) for 28mm and 30mm tubeless tyres – widths that are now the norm for racing.

Campagnolo will also supply the Bora Ultra WTO Disc time-trial wheel, with a claimed 930g weight. In the images it is shown shod with 28mm Vittoria Corsa Pro Speed tyres.

Campagnolo’s pedigree in bike racing can be seen from its 43 Tour de France victories, as well as 30 Giro d’Italia wins and 30 World Championships. However, its presence in pro cycling’s premier tier has been dwindling for years, and the company disappeared from the WorldTour peloton altogether when the AG2R-Citroën Team, which used Campagnolo components in 2023, swapped to Shimano for the 2024 season when it became Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale

Shimano is now the dominant groupset provider to WorldTour teams, with SRAM providing the main competition, particularly in the Women’s WorldTour. Its rise to prominence is all the more impressive considering it only entered as groupset provider to top tier racers as recently as 1999, prior to which Campagnolo had been the pros’ groupset of choice.
