Cyclist magazine issue 165: on sale now

Cyclist magazine Issue 165, Summer 2025, is on sale now. Subscribe to Cyclist or buy issue 165 here.

Check out the location spread of Big Rides and Classic Climbs on our Rides map and it probably won’t take long to spot where we’ve been the most over our 165 magazine issues to date and counting.

There are many great climbs in the Alps – you don’t need us to start listing them off – but compared to the upper slopes of the Col d’Izoard they can feel a bit, well, Alpine.

Joe McGorty / Cyclist

Much like the upper slopes of Mont Ventoux in Provence, the Izoard’s Casse Déserte is an unforgiving, barren place that comes just as the gradient and altitude are starting to bite.

The Izoard also holds the distinction of being the climb where the legendary Eddy Merckx first showed signs of vulnerability as his extraordinary career started to taper.

But what is the Izoard like to ride? Check out our Summer 2025 issue to find out, available now at the Cyclist Shop and on newsstands.

Zac Williams

Elsewhere, we’re in that awkward bit between the Giro d’Italia and Tour de France but that just means a healthy helping of both this month in Cyclist.

We have Zac Williams’s look back at the Giro for starters. As an experienced pro photographer he gets a unique view of the sport, and this issue he picks out his favourite shots from what was a Giro for the ages and tells the stories behind them.

Stefanie Kösling

Switching focus to the Tour, sprinter Jasper Philipsen will be hoping to create a good few photographic moments of his own in France next month. We catch up with the fast-finishing Belgian to hear about growing up in the shadow of Tom Boonen, his hatred of losing and his ambitions for this year’s Tour.

As a bit of a palate cleanser, we go full gravel in the beautiful Valtellina valley in northern Italy for a different take on the Italian Alps.

On the tech front, our coverage this issue is headlined by a deep dive into Campagnolo’s new Super Record 13 groupset. Is this the legendary Italian component maker’s passport back to the front of the groupset pack? We share some early thoughts.

Also in this month’s issue of Cyclist, we focus on the men who shaped cycling’s biggest races, show off the latest earthy-hued jerseys and review new bikes from Cannondale, Ribble and Cinelli.

There’s plenty more to enjoy in the latest issue too, so pick up your copy on newsstands or at the Cyclist Shop or get a Cyclist magazine subscription to have every issue delivered free, straight to your door.
