Richard Carapaz out of Tour de France

Last year’s polka dot jersey winner Richard Carapaz has been ruled out of the upcoming Tour de France after catching a stomach bug at home in Ecuador. He will now recover with his eyes set on the Vuelta a España.
Carapaz helped ignite the Tour in the final week in 2024. He won Stage 17, the combativity award for Stages 15 and 19 and the overall combativity award. In Nice, he claimed the polka dot jersey by 25 points ahead of Tadej Pogačar.

Adidas partner with Ineos Grenadiers

Adidas has partnered with Ineos Grenadiers as the team’s off-bike clothing and footwear partner. It’s a multi-year deal and from 2026 the team will launch a full off-bike range available for riders, support staff and fans.
It’s another big sportswear in the world of cycling following Nike’s partnerships with FDJ-Suez and Visma-Lease a Bike.
First yellow card suspension issued

Alpecin-Deceuninck’s Oscar Riesebeek is the first rider to receive a suspension under the UCI yellow card rule. The 32-year-old was on the receiving end of two yellow cards during the Baloise Belgium Tour for ‘use of sidewalks/pavements, paths or cycle lanes that do not form part of the race course’ and missed the Dutch National Championships as a result, with his suspension lasting until 30th June.
In a statement, Riesebeek said, ‘I accept the consequences of my actions. Of course, it’s disappointing to miss the Nationals, but looking back, I realise my behaviour in the race was not only wrong but also put fellow riders at risk. And that’s something I sincerely regret and apologise for. The rules are clear. If they are applied consistently, I fully respect that. I’ll now take some quiet time to recover and prepare for my next goals.’
Arkéa-B&B Hotels to lose both title sponsors

Arkéa-B&B Hotels look to be in precarious waters with the loss of both title sponsors at the conclusion of the 2025 season. The news was first reported by Daniel Benson on Substack who had seen the internal memo sent to staff from team general manager Emmanuel Hubert, and confirmed by the team shortly after.
With relegation from the men’s WorldTour looking almost certain, it’s going to be an uncertain few months for everyone involved.
Cian Uijtdebroeks injured by car driver
Visma-Lease a Bike’s Cian Uijtdebroeks has been hit by a car while on a training ride. The 22-year-old Belgian was fortunately not seriously injured – his team reported that he sustained no fractures – and he was released from hospital that same evening.
Uijtdebroeks last raced at the Tour du Doubs on the 20th April, where he finished 22nd. His best result so far this season is a fifth place overall at the Tour of Oman, with his last win coming at the Tour de l’Avenir in 2022.
National Championship results

It’s been a busy week with National Championships all over the world. Sam Watson (Ineos Grenadiers) and Millie Couzens (Fenix-Deceuninck) are the new British road race champions, while Rory Townsend (Q36.5 Pro Cycling) and Mia Griffin (Roland) won the Irish road races.
In Belgium, the road races were won by Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates XRG) and Justine Ghekiere (AG Insurance-Soudal), and Danny van Poppel (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) and Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx-Protime) secured the titles in the Netherlands. In Canada, it was Alison Jackson (EF Education-Oatly) and Derek Gee (Israel-Premier Tech), and in France Marie Le Net (FDJ-Suez) and Dorian Godon (Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale) were victorious.
Other notable national champions include Rafal Majka (UAE Team Emirates XRG) and Kasia Niewiadoma (Canyon-SRAM-Zondacrypto) in Poland, Ivo Oliveira (UAE Team Emirates XRG) in Portugal, Iván Romeo (Movistar) in Spain, Blanka Vas (SD Worx-Protime) in Hungary and Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ) in Italy. The Italian men’s road race was won by Filippo Conca, who is currently without a team and riding for Swatt Club.
See you next week.
