Argonaut adds the Supernaut road and gravel bikes to its permanent range

The Argonaut Supernaut was billed as a limited edition when it was launched in 2023, but now Argonaut has added the Supernaut RM3 road and GR3 gravel bike to its permanent bike range.

You can buy the Supernaut in 13 different sizes and with fixed specs with premium builds including Argonaut carbon wheels. The Supernaut RM3 is priced at $16,500 and the Supernaut GR3 at $15,900, with a $1,000 deposit.

Non-custom option

Based in Bend, Oregon, Argonaut specialises in built-to-order custom carbon framesets, when it tunes its carbon layup to the rider’s weight and power output. If you won’t fit on one of its stock frame sizes, it says that it will build a template for you.

According to Argonaut, it matches the frame’s flex to the force generated by the rider, to provide enhanced ride quality, which it says ‘elevates every piece of the rider’s capabilities’.

The Supernaut was a new departure for the brand, as it’s built to a standard geometry, with standard carbon layup and components. Rather than match the bike to you, the Supernaut is available in 13 sizes, so that Argonaut can match you to the right size frame, choosing component sizes to fine-tune the fit.

As with its other bikes, the Supernaut is completely hand-built in Bend, Oregon, using Argonaut’s HPDS moulding process. Argonaut even produces its own tooling for the moulds.

Now Argonaut says that it has scheduled 30 production slots for the Supernaut in 2025. The Supernaut will be sold exclusively as a complete build with one colour option: raw carbon with ‘Caribbean Pearl’ accents.

There are two Supernaut options, the RM3 road bike and the GR3 gravel bike. We reviewed the Argonaut Supernaut GR3 in February 2024. It’s characterised by a very slack 68.5° head tube angle, which editor Pete Muir found added stability on fast descents.

We’ve not ridden the Supernaut RM3, but deputy editor James Spender has reviewed a non-custom Argonaut RM3 (they’re not going to build a custom bike just for Cyclist), which he rated as ‘probably the best road bike you’ll ever ride’, although with the frameset alone costing £5,500, it’s probably the most expensive too.

New D33 gravel wheelset

Argonaut has a new gravel wheelset out as well, which comes fitted to the GR3. Called the D33, it too is hand-built in Bend. As you might expect, it’s 33mm deep, but other spec highlights include a 28mm internal width hookless rim with a 375g claimed weight, for a 1,269g claimed wheelset weight.

That 28mm width is not quite up there with the Zipp 303 XPLR’s 32mm internal rim width, but Argonaut says that it results in tyres between 40mm and 50mm wide fitting more stably, enhancing traction and compliance and reducing the risk of tyre roll when cornering. It recommends tyres between 35mm and 50mm in width.

The D33 wheels have Carbon-Ti hubs and DT Aerolite straight-pull spokes. They’re priced at $2,800 a set.
